Jim and Casper go to Church

by Tony Steward on September 21, 2007

I had the very cool opportunity of meeting the authors of the book Jim & Casper Go to Church: Frank Conversation About Faith, Churches, and Well-meaning Christians on Wednesday night. The premise of the book is a conversation between a pastor and an atheist as they visit some of the iconic churches in America. After spending a couple hours at dinner and then getting a chance to record a podcast for a client of Contagious, I was really impressed with both of these gentleman.

Jim has been a pastor for 25 years, and has now started an organization call Off the Map. His heart is to help the church find it’s way back to the natural style of evangelism and faith that was displayed by Jesus. He said several times that there needs to be a shift from certainty to faith and from conversion to connection.

Matt is the atheist in the book and the one which the outside perspective centers on. As easy as it is to try and villianize him as the cynical atheist, after having a chance to interact with him - I couldn’t. And that is one of the highest values of this book, is the “permission” it gives the reader to start having real conversations and connections with people, whether or not they agree with you.

It is a great read and I really suggest to everyone just for how it will open your eyes.

I don’t look like that…

by Tony Steward on September 21, 2007

Mandy was recently looking through several older photos for some scrapbooking layouts, and she came across one of me when I was in college. Let’s just say it was more painful than sentimental - I certainly don’t look like that anymore!

So, I have decided to claw my way back. I have to say claw because the only time I have ever really exercised or lifted weights in my life was when I was in team sports. And attempting to have the discipline of lifting and exercising without a crowd of accountability partners is pretty hard.

I went and purchased the Gold’s Interchangeable Dumbbells, and a simple workout bench to get me started. I have spent money on gym memberships before but I am finding that if exercising requires me to go to one more place then it will never happen. So far I have been lifting well and I have set my goals which is always good.

Now I have to just keep Nehemiah from jumping on me in all my sore spots!

For companies and brands looking to establish a social media (social networking, user generated content, etc.) element to their website Kick Apps.com could be the solution you have been looking for. They provide a hosted solution that seemlessly will blend with your current website and design, and also allow you the necessary control over the media submitted.

I will definitely be checking into their services more

Do the Ratings at Godtube say something?

by Tony Steward on September 19, 2007

To be quite honest, I am not sure what to think of godtube.com

I dip back and forth between it being wildly lame, and not really a big deal. But as I was going through the site, really for the first time, I noticed something and I wondered what you take from it.

After 10 pages of the top viewed videos over 95% of them were a 5 star rating. I went to other sections and they were almost all 5 star ratings. There is no way they were all that good, no way.

It makes me think godtube is what I first think about it, that it is a group hug of Christian people who have no interest in actually engaging the culture around it. At the same time I have to say that I have been unfairly cynical of the website from the first time I heard of it. So, what do you guys think?

Mission Viejo, CA (PRWEB) September 14, 2007 — Contagious Solutions provides effective solutions to capitalize on the potential of the social web through services such as: Social Marketing, Social Media Production and Distribution, Social Media Press Releases, and Niche Community Research. The emergence of the social web provides a tremendous opportunity for businesses, companies and even individuals to strengthen and extend their brand instantly and globally. But the world of the social web is enormous, and navigating that environment can be confusing, especially as it continues to evolve.

Social Marketing

To date Technorati.com shows that there are 70 million blogs. The individuals on these blogs are talking about anything and everything. The chance that they are talking about a certain company, brand or industry is very high. Contagious Solutions provides effective strategies for engaging the conversations surrounding a brand or company to strengthen and increase brand awareness, to protect public perception of a company or brand, and to help increase or decrease an epidemic at its source.

Social Media Production and Distribution

Contagious Solutions offers the full production and distribution of blogs, podcasts, and web video. Many people are using these mediums, very few are using them effectively. Contagious Solutions has practical experience in effectively producing and distributing social media, and brings that expertise to it’s clients and projects.

Social Media Press Release

The traditional method of a press release, where it only goes to journalists and news services, is quickly becoming less effective. Contagious Solutions is on the leading edge in the writing and distribution of social media press releases, and it offers that expertise and service to clients.

Niche Community Research

The barriers (geographic, economic, political, etc) between individuals are quickly vanishing through the emergence of the social web. The real power of community is being combined with the ease that an individual can find someone of the same affinity, beliefs and passions. These communities exist for every brand, industry and product. Contagious Solutions provides valuable and in-depth research for their clients into the niches and online communities that surround them. This is also pivotal to help guide the strategic development of their social media projects.

SoCal Edison and Transformers

by Tony Steward on September 6, 2007

Well, we are heading towards being without power for 24 hours.
Can’t tell you how excited I’m not about a cold shower…

I was checking out the news on the blackout and they said it was
because of transformers overheating. There are two problems with this:

1. It was only 76 degrees yesterday, if their transformers over heat
in that kind of weather, then they are just ridiculous. Plus all news
about blackouts from overheating came in on Saturday, so are they just
using the same lame excuse for different problems now?

2. I don’t know if you saw the movie or not, but transformers are
advanced robot alien technology. Not only is it very unlikely that
they would overheat (they made it through the atmosphere), but they
really have nothing to do with the power grids.

Unless they had some sweet fight with the Decepticons, it which case
just say so and be sure to show us the sweet film footage.

Neighborhood Power Outage: SoCal Edison where are you?

Well the power has been out in our neighborhood since noon today. I
guess that the power has been out for other just a few miles north of
here for three days. My neighbors and I have all called and we were
all told they didn’t have a report of a problem…. Hmmm

It really is true that no matter what you are selling, everyone is in
the “Customer Service” business. SoCal Edison, you are getting a C-.
Fortunatley for you no one has another choice…

Labor Day: Hot and Smiles

by Tony Steward on September 4, 2007

Ah labor day, it isn’t really that great of a holiday when you are
away from family and the traditions you are used too. That said, we
had a relaxing lazy day that felt like a second Sunday, which was
nice. There has been an unreal heat wave hear in southern California,
with temperatures around 108 degrees - yikes! That meant we stayed
inside slot, and this evening we headed towards the coast for dinner
and a cool breeze. Zoe was very happy to get her macaroni and cheese.
