Questions Guys Should Ask Guys

by Tony Steward on September 3, 2008

I have had the opportunity lately to have several conversations with good guy friends, whether it be virtually through IM or in real time catching a lunch together. And I realized that guys don’t ask each other good questions, especially when it comes to their faith and relationships. The iron sharpening iron deal is usually just two dull rocks passively talking about sports.

Here are a couple of questions I have used or plan on using with some of my guys friends in the hope that the ensuing conversation will make us better men, husbands, fathers, friends and most importantly disciples of Jesus:

  • Are you honoring your wife in your marriage’s sex life?
  • Are you giving your kids the right attention?
  • What did God teach you in your quiet time this morning?
  • When was the last time you prayed with your wife? (or had a spiritual conversation that wasn’t about someone else, but about your faith as a couple)
  • Who do you need to tell you are sorry?
  • Where do you feel like you aren’t cutting it? And how I can I pray for you in that?
  • What have you done right this week in your faith? marriage? family? job?
  • What is something worthy of celebration in your life that you’ve just kept to yourself? Let’s go party about it!
  • What scares you about your health? Are you doing anything about it?

Those are the questions that I feel like guys should ask each other more often – what do you think about them? What questions do you wish guys would or should ask each other?
