Ragamuffintop challenge Week 4

by Tony Steward on June 21, 2008

This week was definitely the toughest so far. With Fathers Day last weekend, my 8th wedding anniversary on Tuesday and my birthday tomorrow there have been a lot of celebration meals. I’ve done the best I could, but I have also lost the basketball 2-3 nights a week. So, I only ran twice; once early in the week and then today.

So you can imagine my surprise…

I lost 3-4 pounds this week! I started at 230.8, which means next week I will have at least lost 10 pounds so far on the Ragamuffintop Challenge.

Huge thanks to Carlos for starting this blogger’s weight watchers accountability idea - Most days it is the fact that I will have to write this post that actually makes me get up and exercise or make a better decision with eating. That and the encouraging comments I have been getting for others in the challenge - keep moving forward!

My Goals:

  • To run 15 miles straight after 18 weeks
  • To lose 35 pounds

I don’t expect to lose all 35 in the 18 weeks but it will be a great start at it. And I have no desire to put my joints through 26 miles of a marathon - but if I could get to the point where I was running 15 miles straight on a big run on the weekends, I would certainly be in good shape.

Ragamuffintop Challenge Week Three

by Tony Steward on June 13, 2008

Well, the first week I started at 230.8 lbs, last week I was at 227 and this week I am at…

So, I am making consistent progress! About 2.5 lbs a week it seems, and I have been running and walking and playing basketball like crazy. I’ve also stopped with the “extra” at my meals. You know when you seem like you full but opt for the extra scoop, extra hamburger or extra helping. The combo seems to be working nicely.

The only issue I have right now is that my pants are already getting a little saggy and I don’t have the “bank” for a new set yet - but I want to wait cause that will continue to change. I guess I can chance the MC Hammer jokes for another week or two, lol!

RagamuffinTop Challenge Week 2

by Tony Steward on June 7, 2008

I have to honestly say that I didn’t exercise nearly as much as I wanted to this week for the ragamuffintop challenge, though I did make efforts everyday on my nutrition. I ran 3 miles twice this week and actually bowed out of a playing basketball on Thursday night, which isn’t typical. BUT my week two results are….

Whoohoo! I went from 230.8 to 227.6, which means I (seemingly magically) lost 3.2 pounds. I have no expectation that I will be able to do so little exercise and have the same result so I am jumping on the same training regimne I believe Carlos is on. The only difference is that I don’t think I am going to go run an official marathon, but instead my goal is to survive the 18 week training schedule and at the end of it have a 20 mile run.

If you have been looking to lose weight and would love an awesome online community to cheer you on I highly suggest taking this ragamuffintop challenge. You can start any week and the accountability of it is awesome!

RagamuffinTop Challenge - #1 - Intro

by Tony Steward on June 1, 2008

I am jumping into the RagamuffinTop challenge over on ragamuffinsoul.com! The idea is to use the visibility of the web to help me get my butt into shape!

10 years ago I was a college football player and track decathlete and 185lbs. Now I am a father of 3 (with the 4th on the way), and I spend most of my time in meetings, on the computer or apparently eating anything I find. I’ve gone from 185 to 230 in that time period and I want to find my way back!

SO, my goal is to lose 30 lbs and get down to the weight of 200 lbs. Once a week I will be posting a video/picture update of my progress for full accountability to help me reach my goal.
